Parade of outflow boundaries! ⛈ Rain-cooled air from thunderstorms (its downdraft) is crashing to the ground and spreading out (the outflow boundary). With no prevalent wind today, these outflows are thriving. We’ve been seeing these on radar today, which show up as faint lines racing away from the spotty thunderstorms. On a humid day like today, all that extra moisture helps strengthen the downdraft, making the outflow even more noticeable. These boundaries can cause a quick wind shift, a drop

Here is my explainer on outflow boundaries and summer storms in case you missed it at 5 PM! Outflow boundaries are a wave of relatively cooler air that rushes out of thunderstorms as they collapse! Basically these act as small scale cold fronts! In this case it has sent the temperature at Little Rock from 94 back into the 80s! These boundaries can also initiate new storms which we see tons of this time of year! | Meteorologist James Bryant

⛈Here's a little bit of outflow boundary magic out in the panhandle of Texas from this evening! When a thunderstorm pulses downward or collapses, rain-cooled air will rush towards the surface and spread out in all directions. Those thin green lines that you see on radar aren't precipitation, it's actually debris and other small particles! What you're seeing here on radar is two outflow boundaries colliding and rapidly forming new thunderstorms. You can think of it like this--when you press the f

🌩️ Check out what happens when two outflow boundaries collide! This explosive thunderstorm near Clemson (looking eastbound) was triggered as two boundaries slammed together — and you can clearly see it on radar. ⚠️ I’m tracking it all for you — stay tuned for more updates! | Chris Justus, WYFF 4 Chief Meteorologist

Post Date: 6.28.25 What happens when not one? not two? but THREE outflow boundaries collide? EXPLOSIVE thunderstorm development. You can see a weak cell sitting near Horn Lake slowly start to encounter more forcing until it finally explodes as the boundaries undercut it! Outflow boundaries, this is called and Undular Bore. These boundaries were created by storms to our north this morning. The boundaries combined with the surface front help undercut our convection and limit today's severe weather. ~Chief Ross | Meteorologist Ross Whitley

There are several outflow boundaries (thin circular bands extending from the thunderstorms) are intersecting with each other and sparking new storms. These are not particularly strong, maybe 40 MPH winds & pea sized hail, but the rain rates are very fast. Flooding is our main concern for the Memphis metro. There's also frequent lightning so if you're doing outdoor activities in Memphis, have a place to take shelter! ⛈️ | US National Weather Service Memphis Tennessee

So far tonight, outflow boundaries have triggered thunderstorms that are isolated to the I-76 corridor. When we are dealing with microscale meteorology in real time, the forecast model data in particular, the convective allowing models, are basically useless. So I’m left up to my own discretion & experience to guide you through the nowcasting process as best as I can. I want to see how these boundaries behave once they get to the foothills. I’ll keep you posted. K bye! | Denver & Front Range Wea

Bloomington/Normal and southern portions of McLean County should anticipate periods of torrential rain, frequent lightning, and locally strong wind gusts.
